William Santoro M.D.

Dr. William Santoro graduated with his medical degree in 1981 from University Central of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, Cayey, Puerto Rico. He then completed his internship at Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading, Pennsylvania. Continuing his education, Dr. Santoro completed his residency at Reading Hospital & Medical Center.

Dr. Santoro is board certified by the following organizations:

  • American Society of Addiction Medicine

Dr. Santoro is a member of the following professional organizations:

  • American Academy of Family Physicians
  • Pennsylvania Medical Society
  • Berks County Medical Society
  • American Society of Addiction Medicine

In addition to being the Medical Director at the Reading Hospital & Medical Center detoxification and rehabilitation program, William Santoro is also the Medical Director for New Directions, methadone treatment center. Dr. Santoro has also been the Medical Director and team physician at Albright College since 1985. He is also a medical team physician for the Reading Rage professional soccer team. In 2001 has served as a volunteer physician for the U.S. Olympic Training Team in Lake Placid, New York.

In the Township of Laureldale he has served as the the Medical Officer since 1995. He is also a speaker for two pharmaceutical companies, Forrest Pharmaceuticals and Reckitt Benckiser. He also enjoys speaking to groups about addiction medicine, running, sports medicine and exercise in general.

A scientific article published by Dr. Santoro is in Biofeedback and Self Regulation, 1988. vol. 13 No. 3, pg 187-199 titled "Daily relaxation modifies serum and salivary immunoglobulins and psychophysiological symptom severity."

In his spare time Dr. Santoro runs marathons. He has completed 40. He also enjoys freelance writing and photography. Dr. Santoro volunteers for The Easter Seals Society and Special Olympics. He was the founder, and still serves as a member, of the volunteer physicians group for the Berks & Reading Shelter for the homeless. He is also a performing member of the "Reading Community Players" local theater group.
